On Thursday 5 March, the School will remind ourselves of the magic of reading for pleasure as we celebrate World Book Day. As in previous years, we will be asking girls to come dressed up as a favourite book or book character.

The girls have been asked to remember that costumes:

    • should be warm enough for March
    • should allow them to continue with their normal day without hindrance
    • can be simple yet effective – and we love them homemade, as imagination and creativity are a key part of what we celebrate on World Book Day
    • must be book related (not film or TV please!).

In the weeks leading up to World Book Day there will be various literary quizzes and competitions for the girls to enter; and on the day, the School will come together in Assembly, allowing girls the opportunity to see the fabulous array of costumes, and share some time celebrating reading. On the day there will be a literary quiz held in Pyramid and House teams for Key Stages 2 and 3 and girls will receive a £1 book token.

This year we will be supporting Book Aid International – a charity that sends books to libraries for children in Africa and asking girls to make a voluntary donation of a £1.

We would like to draw your attention to our Caught Reading competition which has been launched in advance of World Book Day; perhaps this could be a fun project over half term! The girls have been invited to get their photo taken reading in a funny, unusual or particularly fitting location (safety always being a priority please!).
