World Book Day – 5 March 2015
Thursday 5 March 2015
We celebrated reading for pleasure with great enthusiasm this week as part of our World Book Day Celebrations. During the week, students competed in literary competitions, quizzes, learnt about the favourite books of teachers and even managed to take their reading skills into the Swimming Pool. The Junior School were also thrilled to see the classic tale of Snow White performed on ice at The Congress Theatre – a great treat during their book week.
Celebrations culminated with fancy dress for World Book day where classic tales and modern fiction mixed company very happily. In the Senior School, The Little Mermaid opened the celebrations and Zombies from the Charlie Higson Enemy series rubbed shoulders with Aslan, Dr Seuss and numerous Greek Gods and Godesses. The Junior School had their Grand Parade on Wednesday; aliens, pirates, ugly sisters and Paddington Bear (who came complete with suitcase and marmalade sandwiches) and many more characters from the pages of well-loved books all took their turn in a grand display for parents.
Students and staff alike really showed off their creativity and the complexity and ingenuity of some of the costumes left the judges struggling to choose the winners. It was a fantastic week that promoted reading for enjoyment and celebrated the pleasure and enrichment that books and reading can bring.
