It was an exciting week of sports at Moira House Girls School. The highlight of the week came from our U18 Hockey team who beat Battle Abbey with an extraordinary 6 – 0. On a smaller pitch, with only seven per side, this was very different to the usual eleven aside matches. Sorrel Jordan headed up the team in goal with Lauren Davison, keeping calm and sweeping clear the defensive line when the opponents managed to break. Lizzie Garner and Frankie Head worked well as a team to get in front of Battle Abbey and disrupt their attack. Jade Buck took the lead up front and battled away causing all sorts of frustration to their defence.

Annie Smith and Chloe Cory made some excellent runs into the circle and were unlucky not to score. Poppy Horne and Chloe Hughes made some sturdy well timed tackles and caused the opposition more frustration. As we entered the last quarter, Imogen Soper and Bethany Collins came into the attack and made some good runs to pull apart Battle Abbey’s defence. Chloe Hughes and Chloe Cory made a clever partnership, taking on a wider attacking role and provided some excellent runs and feeds into the circle. Frankie and Jade moved into the middle, and as a pairing made a further four goals look too easy.

Lizzie and Lauren provided a strong backline to offset the high attack and the rest is history. Our U15 Hockey squad also played a strong game against Battle Abbey. They scored 5 goals in the final quarter of their Battle Abbey match, coming back from 6 – 0 in the second half, losing out narrowly by 6 – 5.
