Swimming is a very popular sport at Moira House. There is a lovely indoor 25m pool which is almost constantly in use.
All girls up to the IVth year seniors have weekly swimming lessons in which they are taught not only all the basic swimming strokes and water skills, but also introduced to Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming as well. The average standard of swimming in the school is very high.
The Junior Squad train twice a week and the Senior Squad three times. These sessions are voluntary and very well attended. Girls perform well in inter-school matches and some girls represent the school in the National Independent Schools Finals each year.
Vocational Training is also available: - Life-saving is a popular activity throughout the school. The younger girls work towards their Rookies Awards and the Seniors have the opportunity to work towards their Bronze Medallion which they can take once they are 16. Senior girls can also take their Assistant Swimming Teacher Award. This is a nationally recognised qualification. The Swimming Department also encourages girls to gain some work experience once they are qualified. Some girls life-guard at the pool, others teach in the swim school and help to coach the Junior Squad.
