Sport
Sport plays an important role in the life of Moira House students. In the PE department we provide an all round PE and physical activity programme which allows each individual student to develop her talents to the best of her ability.
Girls compete in local, regional, and national competitions in netball, hockey, swimming, tennis, cross-country, athletics, rounders, cricket and riding. Other sports such as trampolining, dance, badminton, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, football and squash are also extremely popular.
By providing a wide range of sporting opportunities through the curriculum, clubs, teams, sports tours and trips we hope that each student will develop a sporting interest that will encourage her to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
Students benefit from excellent facilities which include a modern sports hall which houses 4 badminton courts, a netball court, tennis court, basketball court and can also be used for hockey and football training and matches. Other facilities include a fitness centre, tennis and netball courts and 2 sports pitches.
To support our students we have built links with local clubs so our students have a clear pathway to develop their specific talents.
Sport is where girls can learn goal setting, strategic thinking and the pursuit of excellence, all critical skills for success in the workplace. Girls learn to take risks, to be assertive and have fun with others.
We are extremely proud of the success of our different sports teams and individuals at local, county and national level and we currently have individuals representing the county or higher in netball, hockey, golf, athletics, cross - country, cricket, riding, swimming and tennis.
All students also have the unique opportunity to train as a ballgirl for the Aegon International Tennis Tournament held annually in Eastbourne. The school has provided the ball crew for this prestigious event for many years and this amazing opportunity teaches the girls many skills such as leadership, concentration and teamwork and they all have a highly enjoyable time! Recently the girls were also selected to ball crew at the Davis Cup.
In addition to all of these opportunities GCSE PE and A level PE courses are offered and consistently prove both popular and successful.
