The Senior School aims to provide high quality teaching within a happy and secure environment, motivating each pupil to achieve her full all-round potential. During the first three years the girls follow a broad curriculum before being given help and guidance on the selection of their GCSE options for Year 10.

The support system of committed, caring and inspirational teachers, together with thorough monitoring and assessment procedures, ensures each girl has the opportunity to excel, as demonstrated by our examination results.

We offer a wide range of subjects at GCSE run by highly successful academic departments and delivered by well qualified, dedicated and specialist staff. In addition, smaller class sizes allow students more individual attention and encourage greater pupil participation. We place equal value on every subject and all the girls are encouraged to stretch themselves in every area, not just those they regard as relative strengths.

Life in the Senior School is not just about what the girls learn in the classroom. Each term a large array of activities is on offer as part of our extra-curricular programme which complements academic studies. These provide an opportunity to discover or develop skills in other areas, something which we regard as important for the development of the whole person.

The School is traditionally strong in Sport, Music and Drama with numerous opportunities to participate in these disciplines. Sports teams compete regularly against other schools and clubs with great success and budding musicians can join one of our various musical groups or choirs. In recent years we have held several overseas performing arts and/or sports tours.

Students are placed in Tutor Groups and their Tutor, assisted by the Key Stage Pastoral Coordinators, provide them with support and advice on a day to day basis. Tutors monitor their students’ progress and well-being and are the first point of contact with parents if any concerns arise. The Tutor checks each girl’s student planner to ensure that homework is being completed. This planner provides a very effective means of communication between home and school.

Regular trips are run to enhance the girls’ academic studies and a multiplicity of tours and cultural programmes are arranged each year. These exciting events give our students the opportunity to broaden their experience and all-round education.

In the Senior School we encourage each girl to fulfil her academic potential while having time to pursue her hobbies and interests and thus develop the life skills so essential for success in later life. This approach helps them to become confident and independent learners, ready to move on to the next stage of their education.
