Performance Opportunities

Giving our students the opportunity to perform is central to Music and Performing Arts at Roedean Moira House. Highlights of the school year include Autumn and Summer Concerts which have grown so popular we have to use external venues. Founder’s Day is another key event, as are the theatrical and musical productions, and the music tour. We aim to ensure that all students are given appropriate performance opportunities as they make their way through the school. To help achieve this we run classroom concerts within the curriculum, and have weekly musical slots in our Friday assemblies. The main pattern of concerts and musical performances in the school year is as follows:

  • Harvest Festival
  • Pre and Lower Prep Concert
  • Recital Evening
  • Classroom Concerts (years 3-11)
  • ABRSM and other public music examinations

  • Musical performances at Eastbourne Youth Radio
  • Choir sing at Meads Magic

Each Friday morning we celebrate the wealth of talent across the school with a formal performance feature in the whole-school assembly. This gives students another platform on which to gain valuable experience, performing to a wider group of their peers and staff.

Each year the department is committed to giving the students the opportunity to perform in a variety of venues beyond school, and to experience professional and local performances through a selection of concert and theatre trips. A key element of this policy is the running of music and performing arts tours, where students experience several days away from home, performing in exciting venues and soaking up the culture of another town, city or country. Recent tours include Paris (2014), New York (2016) and last June’s trip, when we took 46 students (and 5 staff members) to Italy, to perform in Sirmione, on the shores of Lake Garda, and in Venice’s beautiful Basilica di San Pietro di Castello.
