Wednesday 25 April 2012
Maths Week at Moira House Girls School in Eastbourne had a magical start with a visit by an amazing Mathemagician.
An ex-Head of Maths turned professional magician amazed the girls in both Pre-Prep and Key Stage Two as he performed a variety of tricks which all included a mathematical element.
Later in the week, the girls took part in teams to compete in a Maths Trail. Each group comprised of pupils from mixed year groups, and it was lovely to see the older girls helping the young ones. Events like this certainly highlight the family atmosphere enjoyed at Moira House.
The teams had to solve a variety of different clues and maths challenges.
Other fun activities during the week included a House Maths Quiz and a Mathsmania morning.
The week was aimed at helping to encourage the girls to develop their interest in Maths. All the children enjoyed themselves whilst developing their mathematical understanding through physical and creative activities.
Teacher, Mr Neill, who organised the week, said: “It was lovely to see the girls all working together beautifully whilst solving the various maths challenges. The week was very positive and enjoyed by all.”
