Tuesday 22 November 2011
Moira House Girls School have qualified for the National Relay Finals for the ESSA Swimming Championships, which are to be held in The Quays Swimming Centre in Southampton, later this month. Eight girls competed earlier in the year for the first round at The K2 Sporting Arena at Crawley - Nadia Winn, Alice Greenland, Chloe Pollard, Flora Alessandroni, Liliana Winn, Thivya Kularajan, Frances Smoker and Charlotte Shooter-Harris all took part in this prestigious event, competing against fifteen other talented schools in each of the junior and intermediate sections from our division in the South East of England. The Junior team came in fifth in the front crawl relay and sixth in the medley relay, and the Intermediate team came in second in the front crawl relay, gaining a silver medal and a place in the National Finals. The team narrowly missed achieving third place and lost out on obtaining a bronze medal by .2 of a second in their medley relay. All of the intermediates gained personal best times in their medley relay, and the Junior team also gained some good very times. The four intermediate girls now go head-to-head with the top 15 teams out of a further 9 divisions for their freestyle relay, in which there is only 1.7 seconds between 12 of the teams. Claire Bryant, Head of Swimming at Moira House School, will be accompanying the girls alongside their supportive parents.
