Ex-pupil and former Top Gun Pilot Katy Gibbons speaks in Assembly
We were delighted to welcome ex-pupil and former Top Gun pilot, Katy Gibbons, back to our School this week when Katy gave a talk in Assembly to the girls about her experiences as a fighter pilot.
Katy had always dreamed of becoming a pilot and her major opportunity arose when, on a School Trip to the NASA Space Camp in America, her talent was spotted whilst taking part in some of their flight simulations. Her extraordinary spatial awareness, shown during a dogfight simulation, making her the first girl in 25 years to gain top marks in this exercise, was noticed by the NASA trainers and confirmed to her that this is what she wanted to do.
Fully motivated, upon her return, Katy completed her A levels at Moira House and gained entry at University to study Aviation Engineering. Katy successfully passed with flying colours, and subsequently trained with the RAF flying impressive aircraft such as fighter planes. Katy has now taken up her first post as an airline pilot for Cathay Pacific.
Talking about her fascinating experiences at Moira House’s School Assembly, Katy inspired the girls to have the confidence to follow their dreams.
Mr Richard, Head of Science at Moira House Girls School, said: “We are very proud of Katy and her achievements. It was a pleasure to have taught her and to see how tremendously well she’s done.”
