Moira House Compete in National Swimming Finals at Sheffield

Tuesday 28 June 2011

Four Girls from Moira House Girls School competed at this year’s English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Finals in Sheffield, Ponds Forge, where Prince William is the Patron.  The team was made up of Chloe Hughes, captain for the 4 x 25m Freestyle Relay team, Tahlia Winn, captain of the 4 x 25m Mixed Stroke Relay team, Jessica Brialey and Isabel Loubser.  The girls had already competed against 252 schools in two previous rounds before reaching the National Finals on Saturday 18 June, and gained the 25th seed out of 25 teams to qualify for Sheffield.  In the Freestyle Relay all four girls achieved personal best times and beat their qualifying time by 1.6 seconds, gaining 12th place and a position in the B final, where they finished joint 12th out of 25 teams who reached the finals.  In the Mixed Stroke Relay, and with several more personal best times, the girls swam with even more determination, again qualifying for the B final were 16th out of the 25 teams in the finals.

The experience was immense for the girls, and both the girls’ supporting parents and Claire Bryant, Head of Swimming at Moira House Girls School, are so very proud of what the girls continue to accomplish.
