The Junior School has a caring family atmosphere where all children are taught the importance of consideration and respect for other people and their beliefs. Small classes allow the girls to develop as individuals with their learning needs met at all levels. Children are happy, relaxed and motivated and are proud to be part of a unique all-girls school.

The children are encouraged to explore the huge range of educational opportunities available to them, to excel with realistic but challenging expectations and to discover individual strengths through an extensive programme of sporting, cultural and social activities.

Our approach to junior education

We pride ourselves on the holistic approach to the education of each individual child. We believe that children will learn if they feel happy and secure, and if their natural curiosity is aroused. They learn best when they are actively involved in the learning, with skilled teachers to guide them. Learning to learn entails increasing the scope for the girls to use their initiative and to develop a capacity for independent work. Our learning approach leads to more advanced thinking skills where the children not only acquire knowledge and skills but also make links between pieces of knowledge and transfer skills learnt in one area, to another.

Self confidence and self regard are the basis from which learning stems and we aim to establish a climate in which children believe in themselves and have an eagerness to develop their talents. The girls are encouraged to understand from an early age that they have a unique place within the world and that, as they develop as young women, they will be equipped with the confidence, skills and knowledge to reach their own goals and to successfully follow the career pathways of their choice. Believe it or not this journey does start here!!!

Pre-prep department

The school has a state of the art Pre-Prep department with a new open plan learning environment offering exciting free flow internal and external activity areas. The Pre-Prep enrols girls from the age of 4 through to 7 years of age and is an integral part of the whole Junior School.

Extra curricular programme

The Junior School offers a rich and varied extra-curricular programme which extends and enriches the children’s learning in many areas. The school has been particularly successful in national swimming competitions and the Chamber choir is often invited to sing at events within the community. The school believes that extending the learning also involves trips out of school and includes residential experiences for Years 4, 5 and 6.

A wide range of resources

The girls benefit from a wide range of resources:

  • Extensive grounds including a designated environmental studies outdoor classroom
  • Two very exciting play areas
  • An indoor swimming pool
  • A modern well equipped sports hall, playing fields and tennis courts
  • Designated music room and recording studio
  • A well resourced art room
  • An ICT suite in the heart of the school
  • A stage with theatre seating and professional lighting.

Transport

A fleet of minibuses can transport your daughter to and from school every day.

Extended care

We also provide the option of extended care for the children from 8am - 6pm at no extra cost. This supports working parents in the knowledge that their children are well looked after for the whole day. The ‘After School Club’ is very popular and is run by two exceptional members of staff who make the afternoon activities fun and interesting for all ages.
