On Thursday, all girls from Years 5 & 6 went to the Eastbourne Town Hall to have a tour, meet Madam Mayor Janet Coles, and have a debate in the Council Room. The girls were able to ask the Mayor lots of questions, and learn many interesting facts about the Town Hall, and the process of getting in local politics. The highlight of the afternoon was definitely the formal debate Mrs Kemp presented, where the girls had to take opposing positions on a very contentious topic – Men are better suited to be Mayor than women! Dr Swingle Putland chaired the debate, and Ms Sheridan Co-Chaired. The girls argued their positions superbly, even though they didn’t all personally believe in the position they had to defend. After the debate, the girls were able to vote from a personal standpoint, and the proposition was rejected!
